Can we use cement blocks as an anchoring system?
Cement blocks are not recommended as an anchoring system. Although they may provide temporary stability, they are not able to withstand strong winds and may easily move or topple over, leading to severe damage to your car shelter. It is always recommended to use proper anchor systems that are designed specifically for car shelters.
These blocks placed on smooth surfaces such as concrete, paving stones or asphalt offer no grip, slipping like on ice, especially during high winds. The wind can then easily lift the entire shelter, the blocks having no anchoring power on these surfaces. The structure will be completely destabilized, twisted and could be thrown onto neighboring land, causing significant material damage.
What if we use several cement blocks?
Even if you use multiple cement blocks, they will not provide adequate stability for your car shelter. You should always use an anchor system that is designed for your specific shelter and local weather conditions. Failure to properly anchor your car shelter can lead to costly repairs or even injury.
Approved anchoring system is essential
The Cavalier anchoring system (nails and anchors) included with your Abris Mondial shelter is an effective basic device but insufficient to hold it adequately, particularly in windy conditions.
Contact the experts at Abris Mondial who will advise you on more robust anchoring systems specifically designed for the type of soil and the precise location where your shelter will be installed. Adequate anchoring approved by the manufacturer is essential to ensure a safe, weather-resistant installation.
No modification of the structure or canvas permitted
It is strictly prohibited and very dangerous to add external materials such as wood, vinyl or other materials between the canvas and the structure of the Abris Mondial shelter. This would encourage excessive snow accumulation on the roof, overloading the structure which is not designed to support such additional weight. Damage to the seams, sagging of the roof or even complete collapse are then risky.
Likewise, any unauthorized modification to the structure of the shelter will immediately void the manufacturer’s warranty. You would then lose all protection in the event of breakage or damage.
Do you do delivery?
Yes, we deliver in the Greater Montreal Area.
Do I have to remove the snow off of the car shelter?
It is highly recommended that you remove snow off your car shelter after every storm. This will prevent the weight of the snow from building up and potentially causing damage to the shelter. Abris Mondial recommends using a soft-bristled brush or a snow rake to remove the snow from the top outside of your shelter.
How do I know what size car shelter I need?
Determining the appropriate size of your car shelter is dependent on several factors including the size of your vehicle, the clearance you require, and the amount of snowfall in your area. Contact us and one of our experienced team members will guide you through the process of calculating the appropriate size for your car shelter.
What is the ideal method of preventing my shelter from flying away?
The ideal method of properly securing your car shelter is with the use of permanent anchors that are specifically designed for car shelters. The type of anchor you need will depend on the pavement and soil conditions in your area. Abris Mondial recommends consulting with one of our experienced team members to determine the appropriate anchor for your specific car shelter.
Do I need to close the doors?
Closing both ends of your car shelter is highly recommended as it prevents a gust of wind from lifting the shelter. Leaving the doors open increases the risk of damage to the shelter and your vehicle. Abris Mondial recommends keeping the doors closed when not in use to ensure optimal protection.
What is the new 2015 standard for car shelters?
The government, insurance companies, public and emergency services, and some shelter manufacturers wanted to put in place a new standard to prevent a race to the bottom and to make them more resistant and safe given the Quebec climate. Some retailers have considerably reduced the security of shelters in an effort to lower prices. For example, some shelters are now offered with a 5 foot gap between the arches and with low strength canvas.
Why are shelters that meet the standards more expensive?
The new 2015 standard is quite strict. On average, 30% to 40% more steel is required to meet the new standard for quality brands such as WORLD SHELTERS. Cheap shelters, such as those with 5 foot arches, will never meet the standard. It is the same for the canvas which must pass several laboratory tests on its solidity and longevity. In short, a stronger structure that meets the standard costs more. How much is peace of mind worth? ABRIS MONDIAL tries by all means to keep prices affordable while offering the maximum quality!
Does your shelter cover come with windows?
All car shelter covers from Abris Mondial are fabricated with two windows at the front of the shelter to facilitate backing out of the shelter. However, if you require a customized shelter, we can discuss your needs and create a solution that meets your requirements.
I dont have any space to store the shelter. Do you offer storage?
If you lack storage space, Abris Mondial offers a car shelter rental solution where we store the unit at our warehouse until you need it again. This service ensures that you always have a safe and secure place to store your vehicle during the winter season.
We park a car in the garage but snow enters from the side of the shelter. How do we prevent this from happening?
If your car shelter is installed against a garage or house, snow can enter from the side of the shelter. To prevent this, Abris Mondial offers a flap system that is designed to prevent snow from entering the sides of the shelter. This system ensures that your vehicle remains dry and protected from the harsh winter weather.
Do not leave your car running inside the shelter
It is strictly forbidden to run the engine of a vehicle inside the Abris Mondial temporary car shelter, even for just a few minutes. The confined space would promote a dangerous buildup of carbon monoxide and other toxic exhaust gases, which could cause serious poisoning or even death. Take this warning very seriously.
Can the car shelter withstand heavy snow and wind?
Yes, the car shelter is designed to withstand heavy snow and wind, but it is important to regularly remove snow from the shelter to prevent any potential damage or collapse. The shelter’s metal frame and high-quality cover are both designed to provide sturdy support and withstand harsh weather conditions.
Can the car shelter be installed on uneven ground?
Yes, the car shelter can be installed on uneven ground, but it is important to ensure that the site is level and stable to prevent any potential damage or instability. Our experienced team members can guide you on how to prepare the site for installation.
How long does it take to install the car shelter?
The installation time for the car shelter can vary depending on the size and complexity of the structure. A car shelter can typically be assembled in a few hours.
Is the car shelter easy to assemble, or will I need professional installation?
The car shelter is designed to be easy to assemble, but it does require some basic tools and skills.
How long does the car shelter last?
The car shelter is designed to be a durable and long-lasting solution for protecting your vehicle. The high-quality metal frame and cover are built to withstand harsh weather conditions and provide years of reliable use. With proper maintenance, the car shelter can last for many years.
Can I use the car shelter for things other than a car, such as storage or as a workspace?
Yes, the car shelter can be used for a variety of purposes, including storage or as a workspace.
What type of maintenance does the car shelter require?
The car shelter requires minimal maintenance, but it is important to regularly remove any snow or debris from the cover to prevent damage or collapse. You should also inspect the structure periodically for any signs of wear or damage and address any issues promptly.
Safe snow removal techniques for car shelters
It is imperative to regularly clear snow from your Abris Mondial car shelter, without letting too much precipitation such as snow or ice accumulate on the roof. Excessive weight could cause the structure to sag or even completely collapse.
Always clear snow from outside the shelter, never from inside, to avoid the risk of injury if the structure were to give way under the weight. Proceed evenly, gradually clearing snow from both sides simultaneously, rather than just one side at a time. This will better distribute the loads so as not to destabilize the shelter.
It is important to maintain tension on all components
With the harsh weather conditions of our winters, the tension of the canvas, ground anchors and nuts of your temporary shelter from Abris Mondial may eventually relax. Take the time to periodically check and tighten all of these components.
A tightly stretched canvas and strong anchors will better maintain the structural integrity of the shelter, allowing it to withstand the elements. A canvas that constantly flaps in the wind will wear out prematurely. Remember to always close the zipped doors tightly to avoid the “parachute” effect caused by gusts rushing inside.
Instructions for proper car shelter canvas storage
In the spring, before storing the canvas of your shelter, make sure that it is completely dry, without any trace of residual humidity. Also remove any dirt or debris accumulated during the winter season. Storage in a dry, cool and dark environment is ideal for keeping the Abris Mondial fabric in good condition.
The slightest level of residual humidity would encourage the proliferation of mold which would quickly degrade the fabric. Likewise, exposure to UV rays from direct sunlight could prematurely weaken the fibers. Neglected storage will greatly reduce the lifespan of your canvas.
How much space to leave in between two car shelters
If you need to install more than one temporary shelter on your property, make sure to leave space between them. Abris Mondial recommends a clearance of at least 1.2 meters (4 feet) between each shelter. This space is essential to reduce the significant lateral thrusts exerted by the accumulation of masses of snow between shelters that are too close together. This additional pressure could seriously destabilize and weaken the structure of the shelters. Good spacing ensures safety.
What does the warranty cover and for how long?
The warranty covers Abris Mondial’s temporary car shelters and their components against defects in material and workmanship. The warranty duration varies depending on the component, with a 3-year limited warranty for the 240 GSM fabric, a 2-year limited warranty for the 300 GSM fabric for industrial and commercial use, a 1-year limited warranty for the 190 GSM fabric and the windows, and a 10-year limited warranty for the metal. There are also limited warranties for the windows and metal components.
What is required for the warranty to be valid?
For the warranty to be valid, the shelter must be installed and maintained according to Abris Mondial’s instructions. The buyer must produce a copy of the invoice or proof of purchase and a picture of the damaged part within 30 days of purchase or 48 hours following the initial installation. The shelter must not be damaged due to negligence, improper maintenance, or improper installation. If the shelter meets these criteria, Abris Mondial will repair or replace the product free of charge. The buyer is responsible for all costs of transportation for the shelter and its accessories.
What does the warranty not cover?
The warranty does not cover damages caused by accidents, animals, extended exposure to the sun, extreme weather conditions, ice, improper installation, improper storage, fire, snow accumulation, vandalism, vegetation, or unforeseeable events. It also does not cover damages to people and property or normal wear and tear. Water infiltration does not constitute a manufacturing defect.
What safety precautions should be taken to avoid damage or injury?
To reduce the risk of collapse, the roof and all sides of the shelter should be kept clear of snow and ice at all times. To reduce the risk of the shelter being blown away, guide cables or anchors should be used as per the installation instructions, and the doors should be kept closed. It is important not to use concrete blocks to anchor the shelter, as this is not advisable. To avoid the risk of fire, flammable products should not be kept under or near the shelter, and the shelter should not be used for activities for which flammable products are used.
